Senior Service Day:  Honoring our Elderly Population – September 12

August 16, 2017

Governor Henry McMaster proclaims Senior Service Day to be recognized throughout South Carolina.

Global Core Strategies is the title sponsor for this event. Close to 1000 residents are being seen for Senior Service Day with approximately 500 volunteers that have committed to participate. Host sites include healthcare communities across the state of South Carolina targeting 10 major cities this year.

Senior Service Day was created by Kesha L. Hayes, CEO/Owner of Professional Development and Training Services, LLC to provide a service to support and close the gap in the aging population by achieving a goal directly linked to improving the quality of their life. It is predicted that 10,000 baby boomers will turn 65 daily for the next 15-16 years. That is the age that classifies someone as an “older adult.” While all older adults age differently, in order to keep their minds healthy, social interaction is a necessity. Lack of socialization can lead to sedentary lifestyles, depression, loneliness and isolation and ultimately suicide. When an older adult has lost hope of living, then physical complications arise. Companionship can help reduce these negative resident outcomes.
